ResearchSean has spent 35 years making Reeds for his many and varied Bagpipes. In addition to this he has conpiled an immense library of Recordings and printed Music, that supports a wide range of interests, in the subjects of: Music, Ethnic Musical Instruments, Technology of Instruments, and Historical Musical Instruments. The famous film director Ridley Scott, and his "Scot-Free" production company, rented 11 different Arabic Musical instruments for a British Bank commercial, filmed at 29 Palms / Lancaster area of California ast of L/A. These instruments were heavily insured and rented with the proviso/ contract rider that "Any Change Constituted Damage". Sean was invited to come along on the shoot as an advisor, but due to a prior commitment in Vermont, at the North Hero Bagpipe Festival, Sean had to decline. He did supply photos showing how the instruments should be held, in a playing position, thus giving the Actors info for an accurate portrayal. The Instruments arrived safely back home to Sean, who said,"Thank You! Mr. Scott!" Sean sold one of his French Bagpipes to a New York City Prop Company, engaged for the theatrical production of "The Return of Martin Guerre" which, in it's oridginal version, was a full length feature film, that had Traditional French Music and Instrurments, on the sound track. The pages of scales and ranges for Sean's 30 different Bagpipes on Oliver Seeler's "Universe of Bagpipes" is a feature that Sean suggested, to create a greater appreciation of the capabilities of the various Bagpipes, for Students, Musicians, and Composers. see www.hotpipes.com I intend to include the next 25 Bagpipes I have collected since 1999, Images, Scales, and this time I will include Fingering Charts, and Reed Dimensions for Reed Makers.
Please email Sean to let him know what subjects you'd like to have here, on this page.
